I love comfort food, but I do care a lot about the healthy aspect of my meals.
Whilst searching for healthy comfort meal recipes, I discovered the super delicious chili con carne, a dish we now make once every 3 weeks. I guess you can say it became a family favorite 🤩.

Step 1 : take out your ingredients
For this recipe you will need 1 kg of ground meat ( preferably a combination between pork and beef), 250 g of canned red beans, 3 green celery, 1 medium red onion, 150 g of tomato pasta, 1 garlic clove, 2 bay leafs, 500 ml of water, 1 handful basil leafs, 1 tbsp. of chili powder.
Optional : whenever I have available, I add in 100 g of canned lentils, for some extra proteins and fibers
Step 2 : golden the veggies and the meat
Finely chop the onion and the celery, than golden them with 1 tablespoon on oil for about 4 minutes. Add the meat and bake it for another 5 minutes, until it becomes brown, than add in the beans and , if the case, the lentil
Step 3: add the spices
Add the garlic, finely chopped, basil leaves, chili, basil leaves and mix all good together.
Add the tomato pasta and half of the water, than let everything cook for about 10 minutes.
Add the remaining water, salt and pepper and cook for another 15 minutes
You will know your meal is ready once the sauce has ticken into a delicious stew-like dish .
And viola, this is all you need to do to have the perfect chili con carne. Serve it with rice or pasta, or just plain with avocado and some lime.
